Metallic Coatings

Coating Type How It’s Done Where It's Used Rust Protection
Electro-galvanized A thin zinc layer is added using electricity. General-use bolts and parts that need basic rust protection. Gives moderate rust protection.
Zinc–Nickel Alloy A stronger zinc coating mixed with nickel. Cars, engines, and parts exposed to heat or chemicals. Very strong rust and salt-spray protection.
Nickel Plated A shiny nickel layer is added for appearance. Decorative parts or items needing a smooth finish. Looks good but not great against rust.
Chrome Plated A thin chrome layer is added over nickel. Shiny, decorative parts—home, car, or interior items. Good shine, limited rust protection.
Mechanical Galvanizing Zinc powder is applied by shaking and impact. High-strength bolts where hydrogen risk must be avoided. Good rust resistance.
Hot-Dip Galvanized Parts are dipped into hot molten zinc. Outdoor, structural, or heavy-duty use. Excellent long-term rust protection.
